REL made some interesting toys back in the day. This limber and cannon, which date from the mid-to-late 1950s, was a great little toy which promised Junior some fun play time but it is a little unusual for its time - the cannon is non-firing! At a time in our history when just about every toy gun and cannon were meant to be fired, this cannon has a one-piece solid barrel. There would have been one or two 60mm rider figures as well, but this is how I received mine. Another unusual feature is the blue horses. You saw how many vintage horses I ended up with after diving into my hoard and there isn't one blue horse in the lot! It makes me wonder if REL made a gray set to compliment the blue because this was made at a time when toy companies were ramping up for the American Civil War Centennial and pumping out Blue-&Gray toys around every corner. The entire set-up measures 11 1/2" (29.21cm) L overall from the horses snout to the end of the cannon. Enjoy! Opa Fritz
