Burger King 'The Wild Wild West' Kids Club Meal #5 Tarantula (1999)

Here's one that's a bit off the beaten path, at least in regards to Western toys: the Tarantula from 1999's The Wild Wild West movie starring Will Smith and Kevin Kline. I did see the movie in theater's and just didn't like it. The cast just didn't 'click' as well as the original TV series and it seemed as if the producer's just tried too hard to put together a re-make. Also, the '90s and 2000's were (and still are) all about making everything bigger: bigger monsters, bigger machines, bigger heroes, bigger this, bigger that. When the huge mechanical Tarantula showed up on screen, that's when I just said to myself, "This is crap." The movie lost all semblance to the TV show's charm and it lost me as a fan. However, the down-sized scale of Burger King's toy Tarantula is cool, and quite frankly more appropriate to the original TV show's vibe.

This toy is designed to scoot along a hard surface by winding up the spring motor via the 'L'-shaped lever at the top back of the contraption. When let loose, the motor vibrates causing the spindly legs to vibrate thus allowing the toy to move - albeit in an erratic, spastic like manner. It measures: 4.25" (10.79cm) W x 5.75" (14.60cm) D x 5.25" (13.33cm) H. Be Blessed and Relish Life! Ed

If you chop out the figure and replace it with an alien, this might be a cool steampunk alien invasion device!
