Marx Battleground, Training Center, and Other Military Playset Pieces - Marx #351 German Tank - Lt Gray SP

First appearing in Marx playsets in 1964, the German vehicle group only had three vehicles: the #351 tank, a personnel carrier, and motorcycle with removable sidecar. Today we'll look at the tank. The Marx Panther is fairly close to 1/48 scale so is a bit smaller scaled than the 54mm (1/32 scale) figures it was paired with in the playset and combines features of different versions of the Panther. The hull measures 5" (12.7cm) L x 2.5" (6.35cm) W. It is 2.25" (5.71cm) H overall and is 6.25" (15.87cm) long from rear of hull to the tip of the barrel. The Marx gun barrel is way oversized and while it might be based on the 88mm flak cannon that was installed in Tiger tanks, it may be nothing more than Marx toy designers designing a more robust toy tank. The original Panther tanks had a very slim cannon barrel and something like that would have been prone to breakage on a toy.

Culled from the Internet I believe this is on display at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds.

Shown here for size comparison with one of the 54mm German figures that came with these playsets
