The Marx Training Center playsets featured the smaller 45mm figures, but when they were replaced by the Battleground series of playsets in 1958, the figures were now 54mm. Thankfully, the 54mm Series 1 poses didn't go through all the changes the 45mm Series 1 figures went through. I'm not sure whether the 45mm figures were made in-house by Marx but I believe starting with this larger group, that they were outsourced (to Ferriot Bros.?). The sculpting itself is cleaner, the details more well defined, and overall they were superior to the earlier figures. Marx didn't appear to want to represent all the services anymore and waited until their Cape Canaveral sets to come out to include new scientist and technician poses. It was now mostly up to the GI's to carry the load. Most of the figures in this group did not have the Marx hallmark under the base - a couple of them did, most did not.
