Marx #4672 'The Flintstones' Playset (1961) - Pt 1 Box and Contents

This series, like most of them here on Toys and Stuff, has been years in the making. Having bought the set years ago as a remembrance of the one I had as a kid, it was missing a couple of minor pieces which I was able to replace, and then it languished out in The Cave until I got the 'oomph' needed to start taking photos and documenting the contents. As there's been enough Flintstones history and background already posted here, we'll keep that to a minimum, however there will be a couple of new tidbits of trivia scattered throughout the series.

Marx made several playsets based on America's favorite Stone Age family:

-a miniature set with 25mm figures

-the 'Hunter Party' set with much larger 3 1/2" figures

-a half-set offered by Montgomery Wards with only a few houses, figures, and accessories culled from the larger #4672 playset.

Of course, it's this larger #4672 set from 1961 that has become iconic and is the one I received for Christmas back in 1961. Oh, just so we're on the same sheet of music, the set being featured in this series is not my original childhood set, but rather one I bought off of fleaBay. The fleaBay set was mostly complete and even had some extra dinosaurs and terrain pieces included, but the box is a tad rough. One interesting tidbit I discovered in the box was the original shipping label, which was addressed to "Edwin H. Baker" (EHB). Coincidentally, those are my initials as well -  Edward H. Berg!!

I would recommend purchasing Playset Magazine Issue No. 134 (Sep-Oct-Nov 2025) to get a really decent run-down on Marx Flintstones offerings.

Christmas Morning 1962...

...and I'm opening my Marx Flintstones playset

Box

My fleaBay find was mostly complete (if I remember correctly I needed to get an antenna for one of the houses).

Unfortunately my set box came with no dividers.

53 cents to ship from Chicago to Bad Axe, Michigan - wow!
Shipping a large playset box today would cost $80-$100+
