I'm not a big TootsieToy collector although I have in fact posted a bunch of their toys on the blog in the past. As a fatter-of-mact, the last TootsieToy post was two years ago when I covered a couple of their Old West style six-shooter cap pistols. The set being featured today has actually been in the collection much longer than those cap pistols! The box has been sitting unopened out in The Cave for I don't know how long. Now that I have my 2'x4' flightline diorama board finished, I figured now would be a good time to crack this set open and see what I've got.
The set contains:
-F-16 fighter jet (hybrid diecast and plastic)
-Refueling truck
-Fire truck (TootsieToy calls it a 'Utility' truck)
-Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) tractor
-AGE generator
First of all, except for the F-16, the remainder of the contents are all fantasy pieces. They mimic the type of equipment typically seen on flightlines, but don't go looking to see if they match anything in real life. Perhaps there might be a fire truck out there that resembles the toy included, but I wouldn't bet money on it. This set came out in 1979, the year after I joined the Air Force, however, it would be some time before I actually got to see an F-16 in person, as my first bases flew F-4's and RF-4s. In 1979 when this set came out, the F-16 was only a few years old in the Air Force's inventory, having been built starting in 1976.
