REMCO Hamilton's Invaders - Pt 14 The Toys: #466-1 The Mosquito Jeep

Of all the toys offered by REMCO in their Hamilton's Invaders line, the one design that went on to be become iconic in the sci-fi toy world is the Mosquito Jeep. The name is something REMCO came up with for this series and although the toys were repurposed by REMCO into Star Trek sets a couple of years later, only the Mosquito Jeep would be copied by other manufacturers for their purposes that I'm aware of. In 1967 Tri-ang came out with it's HO scale Spacex line of space toys featuring a Mosquito Jeep renamed as the "Base Patrol Cricket P1" and it would subsequently be copied by Hong Kong toy makers. Meanwhile in the UK, Merehall Toys released the Jeep as a re-branded Rocket Launcher.

The Jeep measures: 8.5" (21.59cm) L x 4.5" (11.43cm) W x 3.75" (9.52cm) H. It has a clear canopy which lifts up to reveal the driver and the gun elevates and rotates and fires small orange plastic shells. Like the Dwarf Tank and bugs, it is powered by a pull-string spring motor. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Multiple Toymakers, under license from Tri-ang, sold them here in the States under the Golden Astronaut banner as a "Moon Patrol Cricket".

A clone from an unknown Hong Kong manufacturer

The Brits had their own version as well. This #474 Rocket Launcher MKII from Merehall Toys has obvious roots in REMCO's Mosquito Jeep

The gun assembly on my sample comes off easily. These would make great stand-alone Moonbase defense batteries
