REMCO Hamilton's Invaders - Pt 15 The Toys: Hornet Helicopter

This is an odd design to be sure. It looks cool at first glance, but then one notices the lack of a tail boom or tail rotor and you have to think, "How the hell does that thing stay in the air!!??" Alien technology, that's it!! 😄 It has a pull-string spring motor which allows the rotor to spin, has a separate driver (REMCO's generic 70mm white driver figure), has bombs that drop, and measures 6.5" (16.51cm) L (fuselage body w/o rotor) x 2.25" (5.71cm) W x 4" (10.16cm) H 8" (20.32cm) rotor length.

REMCO surprisingly put a lot of effort into this series. Case in point: the bombs for the helicopter are different than the shells used for the Dwarf Tank and Mosquito Jeep! The bombs for the helo are shorter and more bulbous in cross section, while the Tank/Jeep shells are longer and straighter. Why? Who the heck knows. However, the shells for the Tank/Jeep do fit on the helicopters' bomb rack so they can be used interchangeably.

I ended up with two of these over time. I bought a cheap incomplete one off of fleaBay years ago, hoping to be able to get the parts needed for it. I ended up buying a better example last year. My newer one was missing the bombs and the pull-string motor doesn't work, but like my other toys "it displays well." Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Looking at this instruction sheet the bombs are clearly shown as bulbous. They come four to a sprue and, per the instruction sheet, "To release bombs, tilt helicopter."

This clearly shows their shape (eBay photo)

Here's the Dwarf Tank/Mosquito Jeep shell. Notice that it is longer and much thinner in cross section

Here's an incomplete one I bought years ago.
